I’ve been relatively lucky with unreliable cars so far but this would push it, even for me it might be too much.
90.000 km and old metal-plated armoring.
Thick armored heavy glass all around and a serviced suspension.
sm70- why not Duesenberg?

I still wish I had an excuse to buy an armored luxury vehicle. You must buy it on my behalf.

A high-mileage 2005 Cayenne S is bound to have tons and tons of problems. I’m scared.

It’s an interesting idea, and maybe not as bad as you think. How handy are you with a set of wrenches? Ha!

As usual the model I’m considering had a spike in unreliability. But everything seems to be ok, especially compared to the 2005 Rangie

Apparently, I had never seen a Cayenne’s steering wheel before.
I was happier before this unwanted knowledge intruded upon my life.

It has 3 handy places for you to rest your lit cigarettes.

I think it’d be less scary if manual. I understand the appeal though.

Pretty sure those are cigar rests, dude.

The middle one is for cigars the other two are for cigarillos and/or cigarettes.
Do you not like the steering wheel? It looks like any mid-00's Porsche wheel to me.

The metallic bits and the side buttons are fairly specific to the Cayenne though, aren’t they?
I’m okay with this. But the one above just bothers me. It’s partly the weird looks and partly the ergonomics of the buttons.
ETA:
For the diagonal buttons, that's a LOT of space to devote just to radio and volume controls.

I’ll never get over how ugly the interior is on that car. So much money, so little style.

I was going to say “ughhhhh” but your use of actual words seem more appropriate.

I guess it is on par with the other 200-ish luxury SUV, plus leather errywhere

The Cayenne wouldn’t be the worst of ideas in itself (as long as it’s been properly taken care of). But... Since it’s armored run for the hills. Have you ever seen how they do the work to armor any car? In something lesser and less complicated, it’s no really the biggest of worries if you need such a thing, but in something like a Cayenne? Just run!

I wouldn’t, if for no other reason than the armoring is going to make the thing heavier, slower, and worse handling. Basically detracting from the very reasons one would buy a Cayenne to begin with. Also, if the windows are armored then they probably don’t roll down anymore, which would really suck to live with on the daily.
On the flipside, you can cruise through the hood and flip the bird to gang bangers with a confident smile on your face.

I do own an armored 2005 Range Rover and so far nothing has gone wrong, the thing the worries me is the mileage, I have never owned a car with more than 70.000 km.

2005 probably only had half-open front windows, I bet the sunroof and rear windows are shut. But the rangie is the same and it does not bother me in the slightest.

Then you’re in luck. I’ve seen and heard a fair amount of horror stories involving problems with armored and complex cars. Since they have to disassemble the whole thing, cut and adapt a lot of things then reassamble it again... It’s not rare (actually it’s quite common) that it start to go wrong with time. It depends a lot on which company did the armoring and when.
High mileage in not a big deal in general... Depends on how well it was cared for. Maintenance should be as expensive as on your Range Rover, maybe even cheaper if you get a good shop to do it instead of the main Porsche dealer.
Also I’ve read (although I did’t experience it personally) that the face-lift cars (i think 2008?), are far more reliabe than the earlier models.
Since Cayennes, unlike 911s, Boxsters and so on, are considered daily drivers they tend to have a lot more mileage on them.
I don’t know the price on this one, but I bet that if you research a little more you can get one with less miles or face-lifted for not much more.
But have it thoroughly inspected and be sure that it has been well taken care of.

I can’t come to terms with the steering wheel... and that something so respectable as the Porsche crest would be emblazoned on such a f*gly thing!
